[VIDEO / PHOTO] Design villa in Cold Spring, New York
Built on eleven acres overlooking the Hudson River Valley in Cold Spring, New York, this family retreat is the product of architect Jared Della Valle, owner of the Dumbo New York real estate development company, Alloy Development. The design intent was guided by the high standards of environmental sustainability of a second home, thus creating a building with minimal impact, which is carefully placed within the surrounding environment. The structure fits into the landscape through the careful placement of three retaining walls that establish a sequence of arrival and define the character of the house. An opaque, cantilevered volume conceals the private functions of the house and marks the entrance with a single opening. The overhanging upper volume also provides solar control and defines the interior and exterior living space. The house is built with passive construction strategies that include an airtight, well-insulated building envelope, triple glazed windows and a variable refrigerant flow HVAC system with heat recovery fan.The land has been adapted through the cultivation of native plants to fill the surrounding landscape with native flowers and herbs that also help to manage and exploit water resources on site. A complete solar system provides energy all year round. The house of 4,500 square meters is built in raw concrete, as well as in planks and strips of pine. The concrete structure was obtained using old forms that leave imperfections and colour inconsistencies. The upper cantilevered volume of the house includes the entrance hall, a family room and bedrooms, while providing optimal sunlight and shade for the living spaces on the lower floor. The skylight perforates the volume and provides light to the kitchen set in the hill below. The bleached oak ceilings unite the interior with the exterior and bring natural warmthThe outdoor terrace is designed to provide uninterrupted views of the Hudson River valley from inside the house and is accessed via steps that also serve as integrated seating. An external staircase cascades down to the lawn beyond, and the pool emerges from the landscape like a cistern
KITCHEN
RiFRA has furnished the kitchen with the ONE island in black cement, while the wall-mounted kitchen, with a width of 8 metres, is part of the FLY collection, also with a hand spatula finish in black cement. Both solutions feature black ceramic tops with integrated washbasins in the same material.

The storage area, on the other hand, has been designed in a pantry that is not visible and closed by doors for guests to see, with kitchen furniture from the LINE collection in matt white lacquer.During the design phase we followed the guidelines of the architect and owner of the house, integrating the style of RiFRA's ONE kitchen with the home concept described above.Below is a series of images of our project as you can see the final realization fully reflects the designed kitchen.
